Garry is absolutely gorgeous. He's a star, a big one. He's funny, he's witty, and of course he's perpetually surrounded by adoring fans. No wonder there are so many rumours about him having affairs, and no wonder they threaten his career. But there's worse in store for poor Garry, who has just reached his fortieth birthday and has slammed into the most enormous mid-life crisis imaginable. This play is a passionate, genuine and very funny observation of the perils of narcissism, hero worship and loneliness, but as well as being hilarious it goes very deep. Lovely stuff.
Over the decades since the show premiered in 1942, in the middle of World War Two, a host of glittering celebrities have played the starring role. Albert Finney, Donald Sinden, Peter O'Toole, Simon Callow, Victor Garber, Sir Ian McKellen, Rik Mayall and Kevin Kline have all played Garry, along with Coward himself, who starred as Garry during the original production. This time around the main role is played by the brilliant and prolific Andrew Scott, an Olivier winner and an actor famed for his TV roles in Sherlock and Fleabag as well as a multitude of glittering stage roles. He's joined by Luke Thallon, Sophie Thompson, Suzie Toase and Indira Varma, and the show is directed by Matthew Warchus. A huge theatrical treat awaits you!
