Brilliant minds, burning hearts and the unstoppable pull between chaos and order.
In a country house, two centuries apart, genius unfolds. A teenage prodigy discovers the mathematics of the universe, as the adults around her fail to hide their passions under reason. In the present day, scholars chase the ghosts of that same household — seeking truth, proof and perhaps each other.
Witty, moving and flirtatious, Tom Stoppard's masterpiece is brought thrillingly to life by acclaimed director Carrie Cracknell.

It is a brilliant play.
It is a very thoughtful and thought provoking about the importance of knowledge in many aspects of it.

Science, love, history and humour, all in one play
It's a great play, carried off successfully in the round, although when actors face away, it can mean some lost dialogue.

A wonderful play if seen in the right conditions
First things first. It’s a great play. A rare combination of good storytelling, clever, witty language, intellectual fireworks, thoughtful characterisation and emotional heft.
The acting was generally excellent, and the lighting and stage effects were striking. But I thought the production in the round, though it was skilfully done and underlined some of the play’s themes of circularity and historical resonance, did not work well in this theatre as it compromised the set and staging and spoiled the viewing lines of some of the audience.

A bit wordy!!
A very complex play on many levels, the mathematics detracts from the overall story..

Intelligent viewing
The Old Vic is cramped, hot and with this show, crowded, but it is still a must see.
